Anguilla Snorkeling

In front of Bird of Paradise at Sandy Hill Bay beach we’ve seen turtles, squid, and in season whales!

Another great spot for seeing turtles is down the road from the Bird of Paradise at Crocus Bay. The best snorkeling is if you hug the right-hand side along the cliffs and actually go around the bend. You’ll also discover a little hidden beach. Turtles and eagle rays are usually found not in the coral, but out in the sea grasses. If you’re a really good swimmer, you can swim all the way to Little Bay (north of Crocus), which is a nursery for small fish and find yet another little beach.

Try snorkeling at any of the beaches. We find the best season for seeing bigger fish is in the late summer when the tarpon and mahi mahi come in close to feed.

The all-day snorkel trips are great fun. See our link about yacht charters. You can head out for the day on a catamaran, a traditional Anguilla sailing ship, or a motor boat. Stops usually include Sandy Island, Little Bay, and Prickly Pear. A real treat is to head out to Dog Island, but it would have to be a special charter as it’s quite far.

For the beginner or experienced diver with certification, Rob will come to  Bird of Paradise luxury villa rental and do instruction in our pool and, then, take you out for open water experience. He leads trips to Anguilla's many wrecks and reefs from his 30' Boston Whaler.
